ANNOUNCEMENT on behalf of 99 Soul Club

On behalf of the Promoters thanks to all who attended the Soul Splash – we hope you enjoyed the event as much as we did. Thanks also to everyone who has distributed posters, flyers and who sold tickets on our behalf over the course of the last few months. Finally thanks to all the DJ’s Jock Mitchell who got the main room off to such a good start, Ginger who made a long and arduous trip to finish off and those in between who kept the dancefloor busy throughout. A special mention to those Jox in the Modern Room whose talents were not perhaps as fully appreciated as they should have been.

The 99 Soul Club will be 10 years old next year – we are currently reviewing options and plans and we’ll keep you informed.

Newsletter Issue 44: July 2008

Greetings

Welcome to the new website and apologies to those of you who have been trying to access the old one.

Belated thanks to all who attended our last night in June down at The Spa and special mentions to Matty Sherlock and Biff our special guests With no other events between now and then, our focus now turns to Saturday November 1st, The Soul Splash.

Whilst not an event to compare in terms of size to the recent Brid and Whitby week-enders, it is by far the biggest event we have organized and arguably the biggest soul event Scarborough has seen. For the first time we will have 2 rooms with The Ocean Room hosting northern soul and the Promenade Lounge providing sounds for the taste of the modern/crossover fraternity. Together they can accommodate 900 people.

We have recruited an excellent DJ line up and the venue bears comparison with any in the UK. Both rooms afford stunning views over the bay and no expense has been spared for the sound systems in either. We are very optimistic that this will be a great night.

Timings for the event are perhaps a bit different to the norm but by beginning at 7pm and ending at 3am we are still providing the traditional 8 hours offered by an All-Niter but in timescales more realistic to our clientele. Suffice to say from our own research, a midnight until 8 format is not as attractive as once it was to many!!

There will be no tickets on sale on the night of the event but last minute decision makers do not despair as tickets will be sold on the day either from The Spa Box Office of from the Scarborough Tourist Information Centre in the Brunswick Centre.

Finally recommended accommodation details are indicated below – any of you thinking of planning a week-end visit are advised to book early as the town is busy even at this autumnal time of year. Looks like being a great event – hope you can join us.

Greetings

We approached our 9th Anniversary and first night at The Spa with some trepidation, a new venue a bit out of town and a similar if not identical type of event in the town centre on the same night.

In the end our anxieties proved to be unfounded as we enjoyed a superb night with one of the largest ever attendances thanks in no small part to those supporting our guests Yocky and Kev Bainbridge and also to many new faces who hopefully will return on Saturday June 14th when our special guests and good friends will be Biff and from Leeds Matty Sherlock.  Matty is making his 99 Soul Club debut having been unable to attend last year because of illness whilst Biff is will be a familiar name to our regulars.

Beyond that there is the Soul Splash on November 1st for which tickets (£10) are now on sale and are selling well. All details are on the website and I remind you that the Splash is an advanced ticket only affair with tickets available via the ticket hotline 01723 515556 or at our June event. Remember we are able to accept credit card payments on the hotline if that assists your financing.

For either event we are pleased to add Briarlene holiday apartments to our recommended accommodation.  The better news is that this accommodation is directly above The Cellars Bar , a CAMRA real ale pub with Sky Sports, good food, and being on Valley Road its just a 10 minute walk to The Spa so no need to worry about the cost of  taxis etc. Also on Valley Road is the Ashburton Hotel so with couple of decent pubs and decent parking this is altogether a decent area in terms of our Spa events.

With regard to the Harmony Guest House (see below) quote “99 Soul Club” and you will get a special rate of £20 per person per night B&B subject of course to availability –

In all cases please try and book early.  Scarborough is a busy at week-ends throughout the year not just in summer.

Finally and just to confirm admission for June is £5, the event runs from 8 to 2 but with no entry after 11 o’clock. See you then.

Welcome!

Welcome to the new look 99 Soul Club website. We had a few technical issues with the old 99soulclub.com site so it was decided to abandon it and set up home with WordPress. We hope you like the new look and feel. It can be a lot more interactive as visitors can leave comments on every page! There’s a few more things to add before we have it exactly how we want it, for instance the photos from past events need to be uploaded. But we hope it doesn’t detract from the current experience. Enjoy your visit!
